Homework for 10/6

It was brought to my attention that what is written on the students' planning sheets may not be very clear to those at home (and I completely agree). So, in order to keep communication open as well as build student's accountability and responsibility, I will post what was supposed to be written down in their planners on my blog.

Without further adieu, here is tonight's:

  • Math:
    • 5th grade math: Study Links 3-5, 4 sets of intersecting lines with all vertical and adjacent angles labeled. All angles also need to be measured to the nearest degree with the paper protractors that were sent home today. I will post an example on here soon.
    • 6th grade math: Continue going through Unit 1 and Unit 2 circling problems that you don't know how to do. If you are not sure if you know how to do it, try it! We will go over these tomorrow.

  • English and Language Arts:
    • Fern has nothing.
    • Old Yeller has a book report due on Tuesday.
    • Julie of the Wolves has a 4 paragraph essay due next Tuesday.
    • Spelling Unit 8: First 4 ages of the unit. Study for tomorrow's test.
  • Science: None
  • History: None
  • Reminders: Scarecrow ideas

Grades

Grades are now available online. Feel free to login and check your child's grade. You will need a password of which I would be more than happy to email you if you can't wait until Monday. Otherwise, each student will be given their password on Monday. I continuously update grades especially since there has been an incredible number of assignments turned in without a name on it. If you are surprised about your child's grade, have them check he No Name basket and continue to check the grade website for updates (I have a huge stack of papers that have recently been reunited with their owners).

To access grades, click on the Grades page to the right of this post.

A Couple of Things...

I got a little behind in my weekly schedule this week; I apologize for that. Tomorrow is the Unit 1 math test. It is open study guides (notes they took last week) and will be identical except for the numbers to the partner test that they took yesterday and brought home corrected today. We went over every problem in class today to make sure that they understand how to solve them in preparation for tomorrow. Please go over the test with them and please make sure they bring the practice test back to school with them so I can  determine and record their score (my meeting went a little long and I ran short on time).

We will be having a small science quiz on Friday. It will cover information taught on the scientific method as well as science safety.

Book orders should you choose to order one are due on September 23rd.

Past due/missing assignments will be coming home on Friday. There are a lot of missing assignments, but I suspect this is mainly due to names not being put on papers. Our "no names" baskets is very full. Students will be able to go through this basket and turn in any assignment of their's that they find. I am switching to a different online grading program, which should be up and running by next week. The one I originally set up isn't working correctly.

Ship Trip

The date has been set, so mark your calendars for the trip of a lifetime! We will be setting sail out of the San Francisco Bay on November 9th. The cost of the trip is $90 per student and I can have a maximum of 10 chaperones (the boat only holds 40 people). The cost of the trip includes the ship trip and an overnight stay in a hostel! It's sure to be a blast!

I've gotten a lot of Ship Trip surveys back, thank you to all of you who have sent them back. If you haven't had a chance to get your back in, please do so soon. You can even just email me with the pertinent information (how much you can afford and whether or not you can drive). Also, if you can pay now, that would be wonderful since we are having to reserve the hostel with quite a substantial amount of money.

Thanks to all you in advance for your contributions and willingness to drive. We really appreciate it!

I Need Permission Slips and Drivers

Students: Tomorrow is the last day to turn in permission slips. I need them by the end of the day, so if your got lost, get a new one and have your parents sign it when they pick you up after school.

Parents: We still seats for 10 students. If there is any way that you can drive, please let me know. Thank you in advance for carting our kids to the field trip.

Sunday, August 28, 2011

We have begun our Magazine Drive fundraiser to raise money for our (room 9 and room 22) Call of the Sea overnight trip scheduled for November. The cost per child is approximately $90, this includes the night stay at the hostel, the trip on the chip, a trip to the Precidio Archeology Museum, and chaperone fees. Soon, Beth and I will be sending home a parent survey in order to give us a better idea of just how much money needs to be raised (we are also thinking of doing car washes as well as pie orders as additional fundraising opportunities).
Let's get the fundraising ball started! Order or renew your favorite magazine subscriptions today! To order or renew online, click on the link below. Hooker Oak's 5-6 grades get 40% of the profits!
